How to fix problems with Windows Update in Windows 10

If Windows Update is not working

It just happens more often than you think. As a responsible Microsoft Windows user, go to Windows Update on your website to check for the latest critical updates.

Restart

Update Service
Then make sure the Windows Update service is running. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

Now click “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” in the main window. In the “Status” column, make sure the house says “Running”. If not, right-click “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” and click “Start”.

Scroll down and find “Windows Update” in the main section. Make sure the Startup Type column is set to Automatic or Automatic (Triggered). Ifno, right click on “Windows Update” and click on “Properties”. In the “Startup type” section, just click “Automatic”.

If Windows Update is still not running
If you still can’t get Windows Update to work, try opening the start menu and checking “cmd” in the search bar. Right-click “cmd” or “command prompt”, then select “Run as administrator”.

On the command line:
• Type world-wide-web stop wuauserv and press Enter.
• Type ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old and press Enter.
• Type net start wuauserv and press Enter.
• Close command prompt and run Windows Update.

The schemes above have mostly worked for me, but it may be time to reset Windows Update from time to time.
